About Us

Built once.
Maintained never.

Every Lazy Lee® spinning closet starts with one man’s frustration and a promise he made to himself: build something that works the first time and keeps working for life.

Where it began

It started with no closets at all

Lee Goldsticker didn’t set out to reinvent storage. He set out to find somewhere to put his things.

While living in Europe, Lee kept moving into homes that had no closets and no storage of any kind. Most people would have bought another dresser. Lee kept looking at the corners of the room, all that wasted space that was too awkward to reach, and asked a simple question: what if the storage came to you?

That question became the Lazy Lee®, a round storage unit with an “H-on-a-circle” layout that spins so every shelf, shoe, and hanger turns to face you.

The mechanism

The problem nobody had solved

A spinning closet is only as good as what it spins on. Lee’s first rotating mechanism was made of metal and needed a stabilizing pin to work. It did the job, but it wasn’t good enough for him. Metal wears, it needs oil, and it reacts to heat and humidity.

So Lee wrote down exactly what he wanted:

Corian® solid surface ring Top
Calibrated Delrin bearings Between
Corian® solid surface ring Bottom
“I wanted a device that was impervious to heat, cold, and moisture, maintenance free, that would last a lifetime.”

A colleague suggested he try acrylic solid surface materials. Lee knew almost immediately that he had found his answer. ROTAS™ by Lazy Lee® was the result: calibrated Delrin bearings running between two Corian® solid surface rings. Together they form a self-lubricating track that spreads the full weight of the unit evenly.

The result is a base rated for more than 4,300 kg (over 9,400 lb) that still turns with one finger. It needs no motor, no oil, and no electricity, and it has no maintenance schedule.

A spinning closet in Pat Riley’s wine cellar

The idea proved itself early. In 2006, Lee was renovating the wine cellar of Pat Riley, the Miami Heat coach and president. He noticed that a standard 36-inch corner rack held only 35 bottles. Lee designed a 36-inch rotating module of the same height, and it held 70.

That first Lazy Lee® wine system led to a second generation in 2013, the first 84-inch freestanding unit of its kind.

A third generation followed, built on the new ROTAS base.

Timeline

From one invention to a whole line

Over the years, Lee’s designs have appeared on industry show floors and in homes, hotels, and stores:

  1. The original ROTAS launches.

  2. The third-generation Lazy Lee® wine system debuts on ROTAS at the Cabinets & Closets Conference & Expo.

  3. Lee unveils the Lazy Lee® Cruise Ship Closet at the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta. It is a mirrored, 23-shelf rotating cabinet that flat-packs and assembles right inside a ship cabin.

The same year, Lazy Lee spinning closets earn the WMIA Wooden Globe Innovator Award.

  4. Lee introduces the ROTAS II, a low-profile, tight-fitting redesign that removes the “pinch factor.” He also adds anti-tip bases and safety brackets to every freestanding unit, going beyond the new federal STURDY Act furniture-safety standard.
